A lorry travelling at high speed crashed into three vehicles killing two persons including a Central Bank employee and injuring three others in Mattakkuliya today (2) morning, police said.
The lorry ran over the centre island and hit the oncoming vehicles on the Mattakkuliya Centre Road. Central Bank employee Amitha Sundararaj and the three-wheeler driver T. Ranjith were killed on the spot, police said.
Another three-wheeler driver, a passenger and a motorcyclist were seriously injured.
The lorry transporting eggs had collided with the vehicles and got back to the original lane before hitting a gate and coming to a halt. The driver had run away from the scene. Mattakkuliya police are conducting investigations.
