Central Provincial Council Chairman and Hewaheta SLFP Chief Organiser Mahinda Abeykoon was sentenced to two and a half years' rigorous imprisonment by Kandy High Court yesterday Judge Menaka Wijesundara. He was found guilty on three counts for forcibly entering a polling booth at Patha Hewaheta, Galaha during the 2001 General Election and trying to stuff ballot boxes through impersonation after threatening the election officers on duty, unlawful assembly and trying to insert forged ballot papers into the ballot boxes. The High Court Judge said she was sentencing Abeykoon for six months' RI on the first count and one year RI each on the second and third counts.
