A seven-member full judge bench has been appointed to hear eight fundamental rights petitions filed over the failure to prevent the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya will head the bench that would comprise Justices Buwaneka Aluwihare, Sisira de Abrew, Priyantha Jayawardena, Prasanna Jayawardena, L.T.B. Dehideniya, and Murdu Fernando.
The petitions had been filed seeking a court order directing the Attorney General to take legal action against IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando under the Penal Code over the failure to prevent the attacks.
The Chief Justice had appointed a full judge bench since the petitions were considered to be of national importance.
