The Colombo Chief Magistrate yesterday (Aug 23) rejected a request to summon Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Director Shani Abeysekara before court.
Lawyer Jaliya Samarasinghe had moved court against the CID Director claiming that had violated the Criminal Procedure Code by failing to abide by some court orders issued on March 3, 2015, and June 18, 2015.
These orders had been issued to arrest four individuals who were in the possession of weapons and to produce them before court, the lawyer said.
However, Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne pointed out that the Attorney General had not granted permission to arrest the suspects when the CID Director had sought his advice over the case.
