The Chief Prelates and the Cardinal have jointly objected against any agreement which would allow foreign nations or foreign military to invade Sri Lankan territory.
Issuing a joint statement yesterday (May 31) these religious leaders said that they would oppose any agreement that would facilitate foreign forces to set up military bases in Sri Lanka and use the island's territory as per their own wishes.
Public opinion must be sought before signing any agreement with foreign countries or organisations, which threaten the souvereignty of the country, the statement issued by Chief Prelates of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters along with Cardinal Malcom Ranjith read.
