The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a suspect in connection with a video circulated on social media allegedly showing a child being sexually abused.
Police Media Unit stated that the suspect was arrested today (19) in Andiambalama. The 36-year-old suspect is a resident of Andiambalama and is a relative of the victim, the statement issued by police further said.
The suspect was arrested after an investigation launched by the Digital Forensics Unit of the the CID. Information related to the girl who was being abused had come to light during the investigation. The suspect had already gone into hiding at this time and he was arrested based on phone records obtained during the course of the investigation.
Police said further investigations had revealed that the suspect had sexually abused the victim on several previous occasions, both at her house and at other places.
The victim has been produced before a Judicial Medical Officer. The suspect is due to be produced before the Aluthkade No.01 Magistrate's Court tomorrow (20). The CID is conducting further investigations.
