The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed Court today (Dec 12) that the investigations regarding Dr. Mohamed Shafi are being conducted by a new investigative team.
Accordingly, the Kurunegala Magistrate’s court permitted the CID to record evidence again if in the event there were discrepancies in the evidence already recorded.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) made this statement when the case filed against Dr Shafi of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital was taken up for hearing.
Dr. Mohamed Shafi was accused of improper accumulation of funds, allegedly aiding and abetting terrorism and allegedly performing sterilization surgical operations.
The 42-year-old doctor was arrested by the police on May 24 on charges of amassing an inexplicable wealth and handed over to the CID, which detained the doctor under the Prevention of Terrorism laws. Thereafter he was released on bail on July 25, 2019 .
