CID to launch probe on Namal Kumara for fabricating claims in VIP assassination case and submitting fake O/L certificate

The CID is set to launch a probe against Anti-Corruption Front Director, Namal Kumara who initiated claims to have information on an alleged assassination plot against President Maithripala Sirisena and the former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

The CID informed the Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake earlier today (Jan 02).

When the case regarding the alleged plot was taken up for hearing it was revealed that Mr Kumara  had previously undergone training in the Army and the Air Force before fleeing the country.

The CID also informed court that it is investigating on another allegation against Mr. Kumara, over the submission a fake certificate claiming that he had passed the G.C.E. Ordinary level exmaination in order to undergo Army training. CID investigations have revealed that Mr. Kumara had forged the certificate since he had passed only two subjects while failng to pass seven other subjects in the G.C.E. O/L examination.

Further, an Assistant Police Officer of the CID, while submitting a progress report over the ongoing investigations on the assassination plot, also informed court that Namal Kumara had joined the Air Force in 2002 and had also served in the Army in 2010 and 2011.

In addition, the CID also said that Mr. Kumara had received Air Force training in 2005 at the Ampara Air Force Camp after which he had joined the Army’s Engineer corps in 2010. Following his resignation from the Engineer Corps he had joined the Gajaba regiment of the Army in 2011.

Magistrate Dissanayake was also informed that the Air Force will be launching a special probe in this regard.
