The Chief Justice today (Jun 11) permitted the Bribery Commission to file a corruption case against parliamentarian Mahindananda Aluthgamage at the Second Special High Court.
Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya had granted permission after considering a request made by the Bribery Commission in this regard.
Mr. Aluthgamage has been accused of causing losses worth Rs 50 million to the government by distributing checker boards and carrom boards during the 2015 presidential elections.
Meanwhile, the Chief Justice had also permitted the Bribery Commission to file charges against the Sports Ministry's former Stores Manager Ajith Nishantha who was serving at the time of the fraud in 2014.
According to the Bribery Commission, MP Aluthgamage, during his tenure as Sports Minister had distributed these game boards that had been purchased using state funds to be distributed among schools.
The Bribery Commission charges that the accused had committed the offence of corruption under the Bribery and Corruption Act.
