A suspect, along with 946 kilos of dried turmeric worth close to four million rupees, was taken in to custody today (29) in the Silawatura area in Mannar by army commandos.
The stock of turmeric hidden in a jungle was recovered by the commandos who were on a search mission in the jungles of Silawatura. The suspect had come to transport the stock to another area when he was arrested by the commandos.
It is learnt that the stock of turmeric was smuggled from India via sea and was to be transported to another area.
The suspect, a resident of Silawatura, and the stock of turmeric were handed over to the Mannar Police.
