The Commission of Inquiry (CoI) investigating allegations of large scale fraud at SriLankan Airlines, Sri Lankan Catering and Mihin Lanka concluded its public sittings yesterday and is scheduled to handover its final report to President Maithripala Sirisena on July 2, it was announced.
Former Additional Solicitor General Neil Unamboowe who led the Prosecution team of Attorney General (AG) department made his final submissions yesterday while handing documents and affidavits that were pending before the Commission in recent past.
During his submission, Mr Unamboowe noted that Commission had recorded statements from 560 persons and carried out over separate investigations by CID unit attached to the Commission as Prosecution team warranted. Former and sitting top employees of relevant departments testified before the Commission on many corruption related allegations and institutional malpractices under various managements.
The CoI comprises retired Supreme Court Justice Anil Gooneratne (Chairman), Supreme Court Justice Gamini Rohan Amarasekara, retired High Court Judge Piyasena Ranasinghe, retired Deputy Auditor General Don Anthony Harold and Sri Lanka Accounting & Auditing Standards Monitoring Board Director General Wasantha Jayaseeli Kapugama.
