Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (Jun 7) said that the collective resignation of Muslim ministers recently was unacceptable.
He had made these remarks during a meeting which was held with the Muslim ministers who had resigned from their portfolios recently.
During the meeting, Mr. Rajapaksa had insisted that everyone must unite irrespective of any ethnic divisions in order to defeat extremism.
The muslim government parliamentarians had explained that they resigned from their ministerial portfolios to ensure the security of the Muslim community.
They had also said that they too were against extremism and would therefore join hands to create a peaceful environment for the people to live.
A group of 10 Muslim parliamentarians including former Ministers Rauff Hakeem, and Rishad Bathiudeen had met with joint opposition parliamentarians Bandula Gunawardena, Keheliya Rambukwella and the Opposition Leader. Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Chairman Professor G.L Peiris had also attended the meeting.
