A property donated by late Dr. (Mrs) Shiva Chinnathambi to set up a girl’s hostel was given on contract by the former Vice Chancellor of the Colombo University Kumara Hirimburegama to a private company to run a mall for two years, Parliament was told today. The property located at Hewa Avenue, Colombo-07 was donated by Dr.Chinnathamby by her last will but the former VC and the Council of the University had given the property on a contract disregarding the last will of the donor, Minister of Univeirtsy Education Lakshman Kiriella said. The Minister said the CID and the Presidential Commission looking into corruption have been notified of this and they were investigating the matter. The Minister also said the CID is investigating what happened to the furniture and others goods that were in the house at the time it was donated.
