Colombo High Court today (March 8) rejected the revision bail application filed on behalf of former DIG Nalaka de Silva.
The application was taken up for consideration today, before High Court Judge Manjula Tillakaratne.
Attorneys representing the former DIG claimed that the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s decision to reject the bail application of their client was unlawful. However Judge Tillakeratne stated that the Fort Magistrate had rejected the bail application of the accused under Section 7(2) of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
Further the magistrate pointed out that under the above section, the magistrate was permitted to remand the suspect until the conclusion of the trial and as such there was no fault in rejecting the bail application.
