The Presidential Commission appointed to probe into state sector corruption under the present government, submitted its interim report to President Maithripala Sirisena today (Jun 06).
The Commission was tasked with investigating into malpractices alleged to have taken place at state bodies from January 15, 2015 - December 31, 2018.
Offences investigated by the Commission included breach of trust, misappropriation, deceiving, misusing state property or privileges, the President's Media Division said in a press release.
Swift and impartial inquiries had been conducted based on information, and complaints received from the public, the release read.
Commission Chairman, Supreme Court Justice (Rtd) Upali Abeyratne submitted the report to the President this afternoon. He was accompanied by other members of the commission including Rtd. High Court judge Kusala Sarojini Weerawardena.
The complete report of the Commission which was appointed by the Presiden on January 17 is due to be submitted within six months.
