Health Minister (Dr) Rajitha Senaratne has said that another consignment of drugs would be imported into the country by next week.
Responding to a question posed by JVP MP Nalinda Jayatissa in Parliament today (Feb 05) , MP Senaratne said that the 51-day crisis was one of the main reason for the shortage in drugs.
MP Jayatissa raised a question concerning the measures the Health Ministry would take to resolve the shortage of drugs especially for kidney and cancer patients.
In response, the Health Minister said that he ensured that all hopsitals had sufficient supplies of drugs before the 51-day crisis unfolded last year.
"However, the second consignment of drugs reached the country on December 22. I spoke to the company from which we imported the drugs from and they would be sending us another consignment of drugs by next week," he said.
