The Constitutional Council headed by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya met at the parliamentary complex at 1:30 pm today.
Appointments to the vacant positions such as the Justice of the supreme court and court of appeal were discussed in length at the meeting, the Speakers Media Division said in a release.
The Constitutional council approved two out of the four names submitted by the President for the position of Justice of the supreme court, while also approving one out of four names to fill the void in the Appeal Court.
The appointment of new members to independent commissions whose duty periods had expired were also discussed at the meeting.
Meanwhile, the council also decided to limit the age of members in independent commissions to 80.
