The corruption case filed against former Minister Priyankara Jayaratna over an unlawful appointment to the Civil Aviation Ministry has been fixed for July 26 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate's court.
Jayaratne, a former Civil Aviation Minister has been accused of appointing his personal secretary to the post of ‘coordinating secretary’ at the Ministry.
The Bribery and Corruption Commission, prosecuting charges, argue that this appointment had caused losses to the government since the post of coordinating secretary had been created in violation of the Civil Aviation Act.
The offence is believed to have been committed between August 16, 2011 and December 31, 2013.
Former Minister Jayaratne and his personal secretary B. Dayawangsa have been named as the accused in the case.
