The corruption case filed against parliamentarian Wimal Weerawangsa by the Bribery Commission over the unlawful acquisition of assets worth Rs 75 million will be taken up for hearing before the Colombo High Court on July 29.
During today's hearing, court granted permission to the defendent to conduct an investigation of the computer systems of eight IT companies which had been listed by the prosecution as case evidence.
The director general of the Bribery Commission had filed indictments against Mr Weerawansa for the alleged unlawful acquisition of money and assets, estimated at Rs.75 million within a period of six years while serving as a Minister, during the former regime between January 1, 2009 until December 31, 2014
The prosecution claimed that the offence committed by Mr. Weerawansa was in violation of Section 23 of the Bribery Act.
