The precedent to eradicate corruption must be created from highest levels of the country and not from the grassroots, Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP) Minister Sajith Premadasa said today (Aug 23).
Addressing a rally in Matara, Premadasa told party supporters that he would strive towards ensuring that war heroes are granted their due place in society and not made to clean roads.
The rally, themed "Mulu Ratatama Sajith enawa. Obath Enna Matarata" was held at the Sanath Jayasuriya grounds in Matara in support of Minister Premadasa who is tipped to be a presidential candidate.
While pointing out that the upcoming presidential elections would be a turning point for the country, Mr. Premadasa stated that he would directly engage with the people to create a "prosperous country" instead of staying inside mansions, if voted into power.
He further claimed that his candidacy at the upcoming polls is being re-affirmed owing to the support of the people.
