Court grants bail to 16 CPC workers

Sixteen Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) workers who had arrest warrants issued against them were released on bail today after surrendering to court. 

All 16 workers were arrested by police during the CPC workers' strike on July 26 and were subsequently released on police bail.

They were arrested for obstructing the distribution of fuel despite it being gazetted as an essential service. 

The workers were ordered to appear in court on Monday (July 31). The court issued warrants for their arrest after they failed to appear before it yesterday.

However, the suspects surrendered to court this morning and their attorneys filed a motion seeking bail for them.
