A father who had killed his three-and-a-half year old daughter by means of of torture was sentenced to death by the Anuradhapura High Court yesterday (Feb 11).
North Central Province High Court Judge Mahesh Weerawan while issuing the verdict had said that the prosecutors had managed to prove their charges against the suspect beyond any reasonable doubt.
The suspect was a identified as a resident of Sampathgama by the name of I.G.S.Ranatunga alias 'Gamini'.
Charges were filed against the suspect by the Attorney General claiming that he had murdered his daughter identified as S. Upeka Lakmali, by committing various acts of torture in June 2005.
