Court imposes guidelines on gatherings of monks in Colombo - Police

The Chief Magistrate's court has imposed certain regulations on a gathering which has been organized in Colombo between September 01 to 10, police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.

According to the police, these orders have been issued to Ven. Madille Panyaloka Thero - Convenor of the 'Sinhala Jathika Balamuluwa' movement, Ven.Ittekande Saddatissa Thera - Convenor of the Ravana Balaya movement, and the monks belonging to these groups.

These gathering could take place in the form of protests, meetings, or marches, police added.

Mr. Gunasekara said that the court orders concerning these gatherings are as follows ;

  • They should be held peacefully without violating the law
  • They should not spur an uprising in the country
  • They should not affect the public, transport, cause any accident, or any inconveniences to the people
  • They should not engage in the slightest action which damages peace in the country
  • They should refrain from taking part in meetings and marches which affects those engaged in legal activities.
