The Colombo Magistrate's Court, upon a request made by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), imposed a foreign travel ban on parliamentarian Rajitha Senaratne today (Dec 23).
The ban comes in the wake of his anticipatory bail application seeking the prevention of his arrest for organising a news briefing attended by two persons including the purported driver of a "white van" - allegedly used in abductions before 2015.
Anthony Douglas Fernando and Athula Sanjeewa Madanayake, the two individuals who attended the news conference were arrested and have been remanded until December 27.
The CID told court that its investigations into the matter would be affected if the parliamentarian travels overseas as he has knowledge on matters concerning the news briefing despite not being named as a suspect.
