An arrest warrant was issued against National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader Wimal Weerawansa and NFF General Secretary Jayantha Samaraweera by the Colombo Fort Chief Magistrate today.
The warrant was issued after they failed to appear in courts. The two Parliamentarians were alleged to have initiated a protest against the arrival of Prince Al-Hussein to Sri Lanka in 2016, violating traffic laws at Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7.
Cinnamon Garden Police filed a case against 7 individuals including the two MPs for obstructing traffic and causing inconvenience to the public during a protest campaign in 2016 against the visit of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, outside the UN Office.
The court ordered to arrest and produce them at the court while the case was postponed to June 12.
