The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) today (Dec 23) obtained court permission to record a statement from Police Chief Pujith Jayasundara over a motor accident involving parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka.
Jayasundara who is currently remanded over a case concerning the failure to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks, was serving as the Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Western Province at the time of the accident in 2016.
Accordingly, Colombo Additional Magistrate Lochana Abeywickrama ordered the Prisons Superintendent to make the necessary arrangements to record the statement between December 26 and 30.
Former minister Ranawaka has been remanded until tomorrow.
