The Fort Magistrate's Court today (Jul 5) permitted the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to question IGP Pujith Jayasundara for threatening a police officer.
Mr. Jayasundara had allegedly threatened a police officer identified as Amarakoon Banda in an elevator at the Police Headquarters. The victim had then filed a complaint at the CID over the incident.
During today's hearing, the CID submitted a report on its investigations stating that they had recorded statements from the personal security officers of the IGP.
However, they sought permission to question the Police Chief as he has been accused of threatening and harassing the police officer.
Meanwhile, the CID also requested court to release a CD that had been submitted with the CCTV footage of the incident, since it was required for further investigations.
After approving the request, Magistrate Dissanayake called for a progress report on the investigations to be submitted on September 4.
IGP Jayasundara has been sent on compulsory leave over the failure to prevent the Easter Sunday terror attacks.
