The Colombo Chief Magistrate's court today (Jun 27) released former Narahenpitiya Police (Crimes) OIC Sumith Champika Perera over the killing of ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen.
Former police officer Perera had been named as the first suspect in the case. Additional Solicitor General Dilan Ratnayake told court that the advice of the Attorney General had been sought to release the suspect from the case.
However, he informed court that indictments have been handed over to former Senior DIG Anura Senanayake today.
Mr. Ratnayake added that investigations are currently underway on the vehicles which had left Temple Trees on the day of the killing.
He further said that charges will also be filed against the Colombo Chief Judicial Medical Officer Prof. Ananda Samarasekara at the the High Court in near future.
Magistrate Shalani Perera announced that the case would be postponed until October 31.
