Customs Director General P S M Charles has been asked to appear before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) on state sector corruption on October 16.
She is due to give evidence over a complaint that claims that sand mixed with gold had been smuggled out of the country under the guise of exporting sand.
Ms. Charles had given a two-hour-long statement at the Police Unit of the PCoI today (Oct 14).
A complaint has been filed by a Kuliyapitiya resident alleging that sand mixed with gold had been smuggled out on various occasions between 2015 and 2018.
The PCoI is conducting investigations into alleged acts of fraud and corruption at state institutions between January 15, 2015 and December 31, 2018.
