P S M Charles, until yesterday Customs Director General, assumed duties as Health Ministry Secretary at 9:30 am today (Nov 28), a ministry spokesman said.
Ms. Charles was removed from the Customs Director General post in February this year by the previous government, but she was reinstated after a spate of strikes launched by Customs employees.
The position of Customs Director-General remains vacant.
Earlier reports said Government Medical Officers Association President Anuruddha Padeniya was tipped to be appointed as Health Ministry Secretary.
