The Customs Department has said that it would continue its strike operation as a gesture of protest against the appointment of its new Director General (DG).
"The strike action will continue to protest against the removal of P.S.M. Charles from the post of Director General" Chairman of the Customs Officers Association Uditha Jayasinghe said.
Customs officials had commenced the strike from yesterday onwards over the replacement of the existing DG with a retired Navy officer.
This had led to the appointment of Finance Ministry Additional Secretary, H.G Sumanasingha as the acting DG of the Customs.
However, Mr. Jayasignhe claimed that this appointment cannot be accepted.
