A ‘decisive’ decision is to be taken against the Board of Directors of crisis-hit Sri Lankan Airlines as the board, it was revealed, has broken into various factions.
This was stated by President Maithripala Sirisena at meeting convened to discuss the current situation of the airline at the presidential secretariat in Colombo on Tuesday.
Four directors of Sri Lankan Airlines made submissions against CEO Suren Ratwatte leveling serious allegations against him at the meeting, presidential secretariat sources said.
Ministers Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Ravi Karunanayake and Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka disclosed corruption malpractices and illegal appointments made by airline boards during their lengthy submissions at the meeting.
President Sirisena noted that he is fully agreed with the facts relating to acts of directors made known to him by the ministers. The board of directors is divided into several factions at present and it’s not a good thing for the airline, he has stated.
The government has also decided to implement J.C. Weliamuna committee report recommendations on airline irregularities and malpractices with immediate effect. (Bandula)
