Defence Secretary Major General (Rtd) Kamal Gunaratne has instructed police officers to pay attention towards minimising traffic congestion in Colombo and surrounding areas.
During a meeting with the senior police officers, the Defence Secretary had highlighted the need to equip the Police Traffic Division with additional motorcycles.
He had also discussed increasing the deployment of traffic police officers to areas prone to traffic jams, and introducing a reward system for police officers who penalise offenders.
Maj. Gen. Gunaratne had stressed that road discipline should be ensured in the process of establishing a disciplined country.
