Deputy Mayor of the Akkaraipattu Municipal Council Abdul Ghafoor Asmi has been released on a surety bail of
Rs 100,000 after failing to appear before court in an ongoing hearing.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Sanoja Lakmali Jayatunga had ordered the suspect to produce a statement before the TID on Janaury 29 and 31.
Mr. Asmi was arrested today by the Terrorist Investigations Department (TID) and later produced before the Colombo Magistrates court.
He was arrested while being on warrant over charges of providing information to individuals who had links with terrorist activities thereby causing a threat to national security.
