The Puttalam District Judge today granted the Puttalam Police permission to detain and question till October 23, a Second-Tier Jailer at the Kalutara Prison, who was taken into custody while allegedly in possession of a stock of heroin.
The 33-year-old suspect had been arrested by on Sunday (18) in Puttalam town by the Puttalam unit of the Police Narcotics Bureau. At the time, he had allegedly been transporting 40.7 grams of heroin on a motorbike.
The District Judge also ordered police to present a report on the records of phone calls made by the suspect when he is produced in court again on the 23rd. The judge further ordered police to break open the lockers belonging to the suspect at the Kalutara prison and conduct a thorough search.
