Dinesh Gunawardena ordered to be removed from Parliament

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has ordered that Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) Leader and 'Joint Opposition' MP Dinesh Gunawardena be removed from Parliament. 

The Speaker ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms to remove the MP after he repeatedly obstructed proceedings in Parliament. The MEP Leader was protesting a ruling given by the Speaker that MPs from the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna (JNP), led by Wimal Weerawansa, cannot function as an independent party in Parliament.  

MP Gunawardena however defied the order given by the Speaker and continued to remain in Parliament.   

Parliament was adjourned for the third time after the Speaker ordered the MP to be removed.
