The number of those affected owing to the dry weather conditions has risen to 658,696, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) reported.
While more than 224,000 people have been affected in the Northern Province alone 163,000 persons in the Eastern Province and 63,000 persons in the North Western Province have been affected by the dry weather.
DMC Assistant Director Pradeep Kodippili said that water bowsers were being deployed for families who were facing a shortage of drinking water during this season.
Meanwhile, the Irrigation Department noted that the water level of the 73 main reservoirs that come under their purview have seen a 17% drop in water levels.
