Fishermen have been cautioned against engaging in fishing activities in the western and southern seas of the country today and tomorrow.
This is due to heavy winds clocking in between 60-80 kilometres per hour in the seas between Matara and Mannar, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.
The DMC said that lightning too could be experienced in these areas as well.
Meanwhile, the DMC noted that the drought affected toll has risen to 500,000 people.
