The doctors token strike in Kalutara was called off temporarily at 8 am today (Jun 25), Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) official Dhanushka Devapriya told Times Online.
"We have decided to call off the strike only as a temporary measure. The GMOA Central Committee will convene and decide on the future course of action," Dr. Devapriya said.
He added that the signing of the 'People's No-Confidence Motion' against Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne will resume in Kalutara from tomorrow. The union had resorted to a token strike since last afternoon after a group of persons had protested against signing the motion.
The strike was in effect at the Kalutara General Hospital, Panadura Base Hospital, Horana Base Hospital, National Institute of Health Sciences, and more than 50 divisional health centres in Kalutara, the union said. Around 1000 doctors took part in the strike.
