The fundamental rights petition filed by Kurunegala teaching hospital doctor Mohamed Shafi against his detention and arrest has been postponed until September 27 by the Supreme Court.
During today’s hearing, President’s Counsel Faiz Mustapha appearing for the petitioner said that his client’s petition would have to be amended and re-submitted to court.
Accordingly, a three-member judge bench comprising Justices Sisira de Abrew, Prasanna Jayawardena, and Vijith Malalgoda announced that the amended petition would be taken up during the next hearing.
Dr. Shafi had been released on bail late last month following his arrest in May over charges of sterilising women, illegally acquiring assets, and links to terrorism.
However, the CID on previous occasions had informed court that no evidence has been found so far to link any of the charges levelled against the doctor.
