The driver of the defender jeep involved in a hit-and-run incident which killed a Police officer in February has been released on bail after being indicted over the case today (Sept 5).
Colombo High Court judge Pradeep Hettiarachchi, upon considering a request made by lawyers representing the accused, had released the suspect on two surety bails worth Rs 200,000 each.
Navindu Umesh Ratnayake, has been charged by the Attorney General under the Penal Code, for killing Ananda Sagara Sarathchandra, the officer-in-charge of the Traffic Division of the Borella Police in an accident on February 24, 2019.
Lawyer Ajith Pathirana, representing the accused had requested court to grant bail to his client since he had adhered to the summons issued by the court over the case.
Further hearing on the case has been fixed for December 19.
