A wild elephant who broke into the Ridiyagama Safari Park in Ambalantota was captured today (25) by wildlife officers after an operation lasting over one and a half days.
The rogue elephant broke down one of the gates of the park yesterday and gained entry.
Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC) officers from Udawalawa, Mauara, Lunugamvehera, and Hambantota, together with a team of veterinarians from the Udawalawa Elephant Transit Home took part in the operation to capture the elephant.
DWC officers took the elephant away and it will be released into a forest reserve.
