Minister Rajitha Senaratne has said that e-health cards would be issued to the general public from February this year.
Issuing a press release, the Ministry of Health said that the first phase of the project will be carried out at the Kalutara General Hospital and the Bandaragama district hospital. The issuance of these cards is expected to be completed within six months.
Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratne said that the e-health cards would contain the medical history of patients thereby facilitating them to obtain treatment from any hospital across the country.
An organisation which carried out a similar project in the Andra Province in India will assist the government in this initiative.
This project was revealed to mark the World Health Day on April 07 last year at the Nelum Pokuna theatre under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
The electronic health card project is expected to provide the public an efficient health service, Minister Senaratne was quoted saying in the press release.
