A 33-year old father-of-two fell victim to an earth slip in the vicinity of his residence in Nanuoya, Nuwara Eliya today (Aug 14).
Moorthi Rajendran had been enaged in some work when an earth slip left him buried under a mound of earth opposite his residence this morning. His remains currently lie at the Nuwara Eliya district hospital.
Meanwhile, 75 persons from 18 families were evacuated from their residences due to landslide warnings in Nawalapitiya yesterday. They have been provided shelter at a school in the area.
The local authorities in the area are currently taking steps to provide accomodation and relief to the affected victims.
Yesterday, the National Building Research Organization issued landslide warnings to the Nuwara Eliya district due to heavy rains in the central region of the country.
