An earthquake had occured in the Bay of Bengal seas but there was no threat to Sri Lanka, the Meteorological Department said.
The quake measuring 5.2 in the Richter Scale had occured around 650 kilometres off the coast of Trincomalee, the Department noted.
According to the Met. Department, the epicentre had a depth of 10 kilometres.
