The Election Commission (EC) has advised against conducting mock voting in view of the Presidential election, and releasing its results on social media.
EC Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya said at a briefing in Colombo yesterday that engaging in such acts will considered to be an offence under Section 78 of the Presidential Elections Act.
He observed that mock voting had taken place at some private tuition classes in the run-up to the November 16 vote.
Deshapriya cited the exercise as a disruption to conducting a free and fair election.
