Election Commission (EC) Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya voted at the 2020 parliamentary election today. The EC Chairman cast his vote at Lindsay Girls' School in Colombo.
Speaking to the media outside the polling centre, Mr Deshapriya stated that he had not voted at any election since 2011, but did so at today's election as he wanted to demonstrate to voters that the polling centres were 100 percent safe from COVID-19. He noted that he voted to encourage elderly voters to also make their way to the polling centres.
