The Election Commission (EC) has decided to take legal action against the General Manager of the Samurdhi Authority for violating election laws by issuing illegal appointments.
Elections Commissioner General Saman Ratnayake said that a statement had been recorded from S.P. Bandara, the General Manager yesterday (Oct 22) after appointment letters were issued for managers of the authority without approval of the EC.
The EC, after declaring the date for the presidential election, had issued a regulation prohibiting recruitments, promotions, and transfers of employees at state institutions during the run-up to the November 16 vote.
According to the regulation, such activities could be carried out only with prior approval of the EC, if deemed necessary.
