A private digital advertising company has petitioned the Supreme Court challenging the Election Commission (EC)'s decision to prohibit advertising presidential candidates on LED screens.
The petitioners argued that the decision taken by the EC had affected ordinary legal businesses and as a result violated the fundamental rights granted by the constitution.
Accordingly, the company sought an interim order to suspend the EC's regulation prohibiting advertisements of presidential candidates on roadside LED screens and cinema halls.
EC Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya, along with EC members N.J. Abeysekara and Rathnajeevan H.Hoole have been named as respondents to the petition.
