The Education Secretary and the Senior DIG of the Eastern Province have been summoned before the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) probing the Easter Sunday attacks today (Jul 10).
Education Secretary Nihal Ranasinghe has been summoned to inquire regarding extremist content which is alleged to have been published in school textbooks, PSC Chairman Ananda Kumarasiri said.
Meanwhile, MP Dayasiri Jayasekara has been summoned for a second time to appear before the PSC as he had failed to do so during the first occasion.
Jayasekara had refused to appear before the Committee by claiming that there were ongoing court cases on the April 21 terrorist bombings.
He had also sought a clarification from Speaker Karu Jayasuriya as to whether it was a breach of parliamentary privileges to be summoned before the PSC in the backdrop of ongoing court cases.
In response, the Speaker had stated that it would be appropriate for him to do so. However, it remains immediately unclear as to whether the Parliamentarian will appear before the Committee.
Today's sittings are set to begin at 2 pm.
